1 Putting on a bridle on Wed Oct 08, 2008 3:07 pm

Ok, here is how to put on a bridle.
Tie the horse up if needed.
1) remove the head collar/ fasten the head collar round the horse's neck, but not too tight (using the strap that goes behind the ears).
2) make sure you have untangled the bridle.
3) make sure the bit is the right way round so it doesn't pinch the horse's tounge.
4) stand on the near side of the horse.
5) put the right arm under the horse's head and then with that hand, hold the brow band and throat latch etc above the horse's head.
6) with left hand hold the bit, put your thumb behind the horse's teeth to get it to open it's mouth (be gentle!)
7) once the horse has the bit in it's mouth, quickly sort the brow band etc out and make sure the bit doesn't come out again.
Cool if you are not riding twist the reins then fasten the throat latch through them.
9) make sure the throat latch isn't too tight, even if you are riding.
